My Story – The Heart Behind ORLAGH’S

 

As a child, I was bitten several times by dogs. Those experiences left me with not only physical scars and numerous hospital visits, but also a deep fear that stayed with me for many years. Looking back, I know those incidents were never the dogs’ fault. They were the result of poor ownership, lack of training, and a failure to provide the structure and understanding every dog needs.

 

For a long time, fear shaped my relationship with dogs. But everything changed in 2008, when I finally overcame that fear and began to live with dogs in my own home. That was the moment my eyes opened. I discovered what I had been missing as a child — the joy, loyalty, and companionship that only a dog can give. It was also the moment I realised something profound: we humans don’t deserve dogs. Their pure hearts, their loyalty without condition, and their ability to forgive and love endlessly put them on a level far higher than our own.

 

Dogs have taught me lessons no classroom ever could: patience, trust, resilience, and the importance of living fully in each moment. If we take the time to truly understand them, we find that there is so much we, as humans, can learn from them.

 

 

A Journey Through Love and Loss

 

My bond with dogs has brought me countless moments of joy, but it has also brought me one of the deepest heartbreaks of my life. Years ago, I lost a beloved companion to cancer. I had just one week’s notice before I had to say goodbye. The grief of that loss has stayed with me, even seven years later, and it changed me forever.

 

That experience made me realise how vital it is to:

 

• notice early warning signs,

• support dogs with the best possible diet and holistic care,

• and never take a single day with them for granted.

 

It became the driving force behind everything I do today — my mission to make change in how people care for their dogs, and to help others avoid that same heartbreak.

 

 

A Holistic and Natural Approach

 

From nutrition to training, I believe in a holistic, natural way of caring for dogs. It means focusing not only on their physical needs, but also on their emotional and social wellbeing. It means choosing natural, nourishing foods over artificial fillers, and creating environments that enrich their minds as much as their bodies.

 

This passion also led me to start making homemade treats, because I truly believe the best treats you can give a dog come from the home and the heart. Each recipe is made with love and care, because what goes into a dog’s body directly shapes their health, happiness, and longevity.

 

 

The ORLAGH’S Puppy Pack – My Ethos in Action

 

My journey and passion eventually inspired me to write my own Dog Care Pack for new and current owners. This wasn’t just about Labradors, but dogs in general — a complete, practical, and heartfelt guide.

 

The Puppy Pack brings together everything I believe in and stand for:

Why I Do What I Do

 

My story begins in fear but is carried forward by love. From being a child who was bitten, to becoming an adult who cannot imagine life without dogs, I’ve lived both extremes. And through it all, one truth remains clear: dogs are our greatest teachers.

 

That’s why at ORLAGH’S, my ethos is simple:

 Love them like family.

 Respect them as the extraordinary beings they are.
