In rare cases, where hormonal conditions such as persistent phantom pregnancies continue to affect a bitch’s wellbeing, a carefully considered third and final litter may be undertaken purely as a therapeutic, welfare-led decision.

Under no circumstances would any dog be bred beyond this point. If symptoms were to persist, spaying would then be considered in the dog’s best medical interest.
